Team Building Glassmaking Event

“Marcia will encourage you to stretch your imagination, and test the limits of what you think you can do. She constantly inspired all of us to try something new or look at things in a different way.”

“I had the opportunity to take one of Marcia’s classes with a few co-workers. Not only was it fun to hear Marcia’s stories, I got to know my co-workers a little better and made some beautiful glass pieces. I would do it again in a heartbeat! I would love to work more on the skills I learned the first time around.”

– Patty M.

Team building doesn’t have to be about dirt and grit and ropes courses. Wileyware “World Headquarters”, a tidy and charming bright-yellow backyard art studio/ showroom welcomes groups of adults to put aside their work responsibilities and explore their creativity by crafting fused-glass window ornaments, key chains, and jewelry.

Instead of mandating competition or collaboration, these workshops inspire participants to shed the linear thinking of the office and play in the imaginal realm as they manipulate color and shape into beautiful and functional works of art for the office, home, or personal embellishment.

“Shed the linear thinking of the office and play in the imaginal realm.”

Teams can also work together to make elements for a large window ornament or platter for the workplace.

Another option is for team members to make a kaleidoscopic dichroic glass base for a beautiful blown drinking glass. “Students cut and assemble pieces of dichroic glass and I fuse them in the kiln,” says Wiley. “When I blow them into the bottom of a glass, it’s like a kaleidoscope–the highly reflective dichroic glass color shifts in the light and refracts through the sturdy walls of the glass, changing color with every movement.” Within two weeks, team members will have a custom drinking glass on their desks–a unique, durable reminder of a rewarding afternoon.

Past teams have included groups from Microsoft and Ballard Pediatrics.
